Coronary
Angiography

Coronary angiography is a diagnostic procedure used to assess the condition of the coronary arteries, which supply blood to the heart. During the procedure, a catheter is inserted into a blood vessel, usually in the groin or wrist, and guided to the coronary arteries. A contrast dye is injected through the catheter, allowing the arteries to be visible on X-ray images. This enables the cardiologist to detect blockages, narrowing, or other abnormalities in the arteries that could lead to heart disease, chest pain, or heart attacks. Coronary angiography is commonly used when a patient presents with symptoms like chest pain or shortness of breath, helping to evaluate the severity of coronary artery disease and determine the appropriate treatment, such as angioplasty, stenting, or bypass surgery.
